Journey of the Ancestors
Journey of the Ancestors was inspired by the traditional Day of the Dead
Celebration that takes place every year in Mexico. The Mexican people decorate
the graves of their ancestors with marigolds, traditional Mexican food and the
favourite drink of the deceased to honour their return .
Journey to Mictlan speaks of the belief that when an Aztec dies, he travels
into a big black hole of 9 underworlds called “Mictlan” only to return to
earth on Day of the Dead or when he reincarnates.
All the pieces including the figurative inserts are constructed from paper
made from indigenous materials. |
